The purpose of this Blog is to give voice to those topics that are generally considered off-topic on the Czernowitz-L discussion group. Here you can discuss how the List is run; how the Website is run, how the blog is run, politics (oy), Yiddish, the latest petitions, humour, etc. You can post photos, music, short videos, links — almost anything that doesn’t quite fit within the List’s mission of genealogy and related historical research, but has some relationship to our common herritage and persuits.
Here’s what you have to do to post:
1. You must be a member of the Czernowitz-L discussion group
2. You have to Register. You can no longer register yourself. All you have to do is send an email to email@example.com In the subject line put: ‘register’; in the text put your log-in name (the name you wish be identified by when you post); then put in a ‘password’ you can remember. I will register your user name and password. I will need a working email address too. No-one will see this email address. If you don’t give one, I’ll use the one from the message you send.
3. When I complete your registration, I will email you and tell you so. You have to log in to post, but not to read the blog or to comment.
Once you’re set up, you can post. Read the page ‘How to make your first post’. Your posts are NOT moderated. Please put your name at the end of your posts. Your email address is not necessary.
Anyone can comment, list member or not. We are starting off with comments not being moderated. But if this proves troublesome, comments will be screened for nastyness and spam.
There is a difference between a ‘comment’ and a ‘post’. A comment adds information relating to an existing post. It does not start a new topic or thread. A post generally presents a new topic or a significant departure from existing posts.
There are example posts and comments left over from when ‘we’ (volunteer folks and I) were getting this blog running properly. Maybe the examples aren’t the best, but you’ll get the idea.
The pages that follow this one are basically ‘How To’ instructions that should get you started.
The address (URL) of the blog is http://ehpes.com/blog1
But of course you know that, how else would you have gotten this far?
Your administrators are Jerome and Bruce, same as the List. We’re hoping that after you get used to things that everything will run without administrator intervention.
You can contact jerome at: firstname.lastname@example.org or if you’re having difficulty with the blog, you can post a help request — just put HELP in the subject or title line followed with a very brief description of the problem: i.e. ‘HELP can’t change password’, or whatever the problem is. You can be as descriptive as necessary in the post itself.
Of course, suggestions for improvement are always welcome.
